Cuckoo Roller

This female Cuckoo Roller was one of a pair engaged in a dipping, whistling flight display at Isalo in Madagascar.

The Cuckoo Roller is now placed as the sole species in a whole bird order of its own: Leptosomiformes, an ancestral form somewhat related to trogons, kingfishers, woodpeckers and hornbills.

Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4x, tripod+mongoose 3.5, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/1600, ec+1, a large crop.

Way to go capturing this unique bird in flight! Techs look very good too, can just see a hint of the cropping effects on the head area. :toast:
