Yellow-rumped Warbler (Dendroica coronata)

Place: Water Ranch, Gilbert, AZ
Date: December 17, 2010, 2:00 pm
Equipment: Nikon D200, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: ISO 400, aperture priority matrix metered, 1/320th @ f/8
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac, 65% of frame
Not baited, not called, not set up, no cloning, no noise reduction

An abundant bird here in winter, but like all warblers small, active, and usually difficult to capture without baiting. Note this was an afternoon shot – something I don’t do very often.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated. Please see the larger version for full impact.

Hi Richard. I immediately like this photo, so delicate yet detailed, water-color like almost. Very nice color gradation in the sky, subtle. :toast:

I agree with Gary's comments, and I especially like the dried flower perch/bottom.
I rarely shoot afternoon also, results are usually disappointing.

I love this, Richard. Nice composition, and great perch, the latter really catches my eye.

Beautiful image Richard, I love the composition, detail and pose of the warbler and especially the over-all color pallet.

Very nice composition with the foreground plants lining the bottom and good detail on the warbler. I am still working on being a morning person so afternoon shots look good to me.

Sweet image, Richard. I really like the lines of the plants and the way they work with the bird to create a circular composition.
