Bad Hair Day

West Desert Utah, Simpson Mt. Mustang. This horse ran directly at me stopping about 25’ away with a snort and headshake. It turns out I was between him and a couple of his females and that did not sit well…. Luckily he put on the breaks and just tried to scare me (it worked :0) What an awesome creature in a very remote location !

I am happy with the shot and love the implied action, and the eyes. If I crop this shot and only show him from the shoulders up it makes for a great close up. I wish I had been able to rotate the camera so I could have captured feet but this shot developed so quickly I did not have a chance.

Canon 1DM4, ISO 400, Manual Mode, 840mm, f 5.6, 1/100. Pre and post sharpening, slight exposure adjustment, and slight noise control within Lightroom.

I agree that the flying mane surrounding the head and neck make for great implied action. Given you have no feet, a closer crop for a more close-up effect should work very well. It seems a little soft, so some careful selective sharpening on the face and eyes should make a nice difference, too.

Wonderful action shot! But the chance that you took... you're very lucky. One of the best horse shots I've seen in a long time. :toast:
