2 Species of Coronet

Velvet-purple Coronet (left) and Buff-tailed Coronet. Apologies for my lack of participation recently. We have just returned from leading two private tours to Ecuador and working on our property there. One of my goals on the tours was for me and my clients to capture the interactions of hummingbirds on multi-flash setups. This was one of the results of our efforts. I composed a little more loosely than usual in order to try and capture multiple birds without clipping wings, this is just about 50% of the original image.

7D 300F4 1/250 F20, iso 320, 6 Nikon SB-26 slave flashes (which are triggered automatically by any flash Nikon or not), artifical bg, flower with sugar water injected.

nice comp and a great pose by the bird on the left, Nate. really well-executed--I can't imagine how much effort went into pulling this off!

Awesome, Nate. I can only imagine the results you're getting down there. Nice to hear that you got your piece of the jungle. :toast: :toast:

Very cool! Great position and colours. I'd personally clone out that odd bit of leaf at the top - it doesn't add anything
Having been with you on an Ecuador hummer set-up, I can vouch (for Brian) that it takes a great deal of effort to get things right - plus a lot of patience and perseverance, and some plain old luck. The images are well worth it, though!

Very interesting color pattern on the velvet coronet hummer, wonderful shot Nate as I could not see any flash reflection.

Looks like you accomplished your goal "beautifully". Pretty cool interaction going on here, the flared tails and open beak tell a great story. NIce details too. Sweet Photo Nate!!!

Wonderful shot and you stopped the action beautifully without having that artificial "flash-bang" look. The colors are tremendous as well - only nit is I wish I could see more of the flower

Very impressive Nate, your hard work and patience paid off big time with this one. Congratulations. I'll have to admit that the Velvet-purple Coronet is so striking, that I find myself wishing for just an image of it on this gorgeous BG.
