This is what I saw about 25 minutes later from my previous "Sour grape sunrise" image. It was amazing to me how far we still were from the mountain peak itself. Seeing all of the glaciers, the waterfalls and the morning clouds. This would be the last I would see of the mountain as it became shrouded in fog once again. Scenes like this make me think twice, because it looks so unreal and incredible that it can't be. I had to take my glasses off just to be sure my eyes could see this as naturally as possible. Anyways. I darkened this up quite a bit to emphasize the light and colors. Comments and critiques appreciated. Also added a large version.

Like the way the fog and clouds frame the peak, nice composition

Really nice, Peter. So was "sour grape sunrise", I don't remember if I commented on it but I remember it. That bottom frame of clouds makes this image. My eye wants to see the peak centered via a crop off the right - feels a bit right-heavy as is. However, I realize if you did a crop you'd have less upward curve on the bottom framing clouds and you'd have to warp the clouds up to retain that curve. Obviously it'd be a tough scene to shoot perfectly, with the clouds changing so quickly. At any rate, keep up the good work, man.

Thanks everyone. Alex I see what you mean about cropping it. However I liked the inclusion of the glaciers on the right so I really wouldn't want to crop them off.

Beautiful image, Peter. I like the perspective here as I feel like I am standing perilously on the edge of a cliff. The fog at the bottom of the frame adds to this because it adds some uncertainty to the vertical relief. The light and color here are great as well.

Thanks Brian, if your feeling like your standing on the edge here, it's because my tripod was precariously positioned over a recently collapsed cliff edge.

The frame of clouds creates a very dream-like quality to this. You've really nailed the light, I think.

Beautiful colors in the clouds and great detail for the conditions on the mountain. Nice job with this. Wish I was there.

This is how I like to find mountains on the rare occasions I have the time and energy to climb them, full of mystery and majesty. Lovely shot of the now you see it now you don't genre.

Peter, the clouds make a nice frame. I might be tempted to brighten the lower half some and bring out some colors in the grassy slopes.

Wonderful atmosphere Peter. Love the clouds and misty foreground. The repost works best for me especially the greens. Rainier is one of my favorite mountains that I have visited in 1982 and 2008.

Thanks Eva, When I first laid eyes on it I knew it would instantly be a favorite location of mine. So many photographic opportunities out there.

The greens in the repost are looking great, Peter. The overall lower contrast due to bringing up the shadows works really well with the dream-like feel of the image.

A beautiful shot Peter. Great capture of the light and colour bouncing around the fog. I do like the repost, but I liked the way my eye was drawn to the mountain top in the original.
