Light on Texture + Repost

I was looking for a large scenic, but nothing was really grabbing me. As I sat looking I noticed how the early morning light was warming very nicely the bark of a downed tree that I was sitting next to. I had to do some contortions to get my camera and tripod into a position to shot the part of the tree that really attacked me. The it was impossible to get a clean background. I completely blacked out the background to put all the focus on the bark. I appreciate any and all comments and critiques.

Very interesting and unique presentation of the textures in tree bark. The golden light is terrific. My only suggestion would be to crop a little off the top to remove the OOF area.

Cool shot Richard! The early morning light makes the bark look like its covered with gold flakes. Blacking out the background really works well.

Fabulous abstract. Couldn't figure out what on earth it was! Looks metallic. The light is exquisite. I can see how it caught your eye. Great capture, Richard!

Richard: I like this but my first and lasting impression is to get tighter still. When I scroll down and cut off the top branch there is even more emphasis on the light and bark. Well seen no matter how you crop it. >=))>

Here is a different crop as per suggestions from the comments. Thanks for all of your input.

Beautiful warm light. The black bg really showcases the texture and golden glow. The repost is extra nice.

That light is fantastic, and well captured, too. I like what you did with the background. Very nice!

Richard - What lighting !!. That alone makes the shot for me which highlights all the great details. I like both compositions equally well. A slight loss in sharpness is seen in the top right in the original version but nothing really material.

Very well seen, Richard ! I think I probably prefer the repost, along with others, as the light and texture comes through there a touch more. But I do think you had a winner with the original, which has a touch more shape to it somehow.
