Shore Acres Rose

by Allen Brooks

Gallery: FloraPosted August 24, 2012121 views12 comments
One of many roses and flowers at Shore Acres State Park, south-west of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Taken on a rather foggy summer's day.
Processed in ACR and PS5-not much done to the rose, but the background was worked on to make it less conspicuous and provide better contrast for the rose. Comments and Critique appreciated.

Canon 7D
100 mm macro
1/160
F 7.1
-1.00
ISO 100

Very nice presentation and colors. I particularly like the front petal with the details and water drops. You also did a nice job with the background - it really sets off the colors. My only suggestion is to tone down the highlights a bit as they appear a bit strong.

Nice capture!

Beautiful Rose image, Allen! The front petal maeks the shot IMO. Maybe it is an idea to clone the sepals out? I find them a bit distracting. :wavey:

Lovely details on this brilliant orange rose. The front petal is especially nicely detailed. I will often desaturate this color just a bit, as it comes out of the camera pretty hot. Think the body of the flower might pick up a little more detail as a result, too.

Wow Allen it appears to me that you got very good DOF shooting this with a macro at 7.1. Nice!

That front petal really supports this whole scene in my opinion Allen. Very nice work.

Lovely image! The colors are exquisite, and I like the composition with the open petal leading the eye in.

Allen, this is sweet. Nice work on the background. The DOF on the rose is perfect. Well done.

Allen - Even I am surprised at how much DOF you got at F/7.1 - may be it was a big bud.

Love the light, water drops and the petal veins so very well seen. I'd have loved to see the stem a little bit to minimise the floating feel.

Allen:
A very strong image and the detail texture of the front petal really draws the viewers in. The tip of the sepal along the right edge of the bud is a little distracting and may be worth cloning out.

The composition here is excellent! I think the highlights are way blown out, if you toned them down you might get even more detail!

Bold color and great details Allen, I think it works well with the mostly black BG.
I agree with Gary, I'd clone out that little tick of orange RT side of the bud to improve it.
