A Bird?, May 29th 2011

I am not sure what kind of flower this is, but to me, it looked to be flying. :)

Minor brightness and contrast adjustments.

Panasonic DMC-TZ3
Focal Length 39.1mm
Shutter Speed 1/30 sec
Aperture f/4.9
ISO/Film 160

I was asked to post the camera settings, for my photos. I could not afford an expensive camera body and macro equipment, so I built an attachment for my camera, that included cardboard tubing and lots of duct tape. The above settings, may or may not make any sense since the attachment changes just about everything. :)

This is a very interesting and nicely isolated view of what looks like a white lobelia. Based on the size and shape of the flower, it might be a white color morph of the Great Blue Lobelia. I like your off center comp. but feel that is a bit tight on the right

Nice BG here Stephen. Nice point of focus on the flower too. I agree with Mark about this being a lobelia. One thing that I might do is clean up the dust/pollen spots on the petals.

Stephen:
Interesting POV. Like the purplish bg. Also like the DOF you have chosen but wish for a little sharpness of the center.

Interesting comp with the illusion of a bird in flight. I like the position of the flower in the frame and the bg. I wish the front of the front petal was in focus, but I recognize that this may not have been possible without bringing too much detail into the bg.

Stephen - Nice close-up of what appears to be Lobelia or something similar. Love your handling of the whites and the pink wash in the background.

I am somewhat OK with the foreground petal blur as it falls on the petal itself. If its OK with your philosophy on processing, you can remove the dust/pollen spots on the petals.

Hi Ram :)

Thanks for your comments. I am not sure what you mean by wash? Those are purple flowers, that were in the garden, behind the bloom. I positioned myself in a way, to get those in. :)

Thanks again :)

Hi Stephen :wavey: An inspired composition, but your POF, makes the front edges of the flower lack detail. The BG is great, but the main subject does not have enough DOF
