Orange Stamen

Orange Stamen, January 21st 2012

With this shot, I used a very shallow depth of field, to only focus in on the orange stamen. I allowed to the front and rear petals, to create a natural, blurred, abstract feel to the image.

Minor brightness and contrast adjustments.

Panasonic DMC-TZ3
Focal Length 29.2mm
Shutter Speed 1/30 sec
Aperture f/4.8
ISO/Film 200

I was asked to post the camera settings, for my photos. I could not afford an expensive camera body and macro equipment, so I built an attachment for my camera, that included cardboard tubing and lots of duct tape. The above settings, may or may not make any sense since the attachment changes just about everything. :)

Beautiful, interesting image, Stephen. I like the focus on the orange stamen of the crocus. Works very well. I also like the contrasting purple soft purple petal and green line accents.

You posted this in photo art, but I think this could also have been posted in either floral or the macro/close up galleries as there is no obvious digital manipulation in this image, unless I am just missing it.

Hi Scott,

You are right. Everything here, is from the lens. I misunderstood this category, as even my "Reflections" post is from the lens, with minor adjustments. I took photo art, to be more "artistic photography", where you use your lens to create, in this case, an abstract feel.

I will change them over. Should I put "Reflections", in the landscape gallery?

Thanks.

Stephen,

I would not worry about it for now. Maybe Marc (the moderator for photo art) will move it. There is a lot of flexibility here as far as where to post images. If you post in clearly the wrong gallery and it needs to be moved, the moderator for that gallery will do so. With regard to "Reflections", you can also simply re-post it in the landscape gallery some time in the future, just like you can re-post this image in flora or macro in the future. However, for future reference, I would personally post an image like "Reflections" in the landscpae category and an image like this one in either flora or macro.

Stephen,

Lovely colors in this and I appreciate you posting this in Photo Art as we don't get the number of postings here as there are in other galleries on NPN. But, Scott beat me to it with the suggestion of moving this over to the macro/closeup gallery. It would be better suited there. Here's the guideline for images in the Photo Art gallery;

"The Photo Art and Series photo critique gallery is intended for digitally manipulated or multiple exposure photos that are intended as obvious artistic renditions of nature. It is also intended for a series of nature photos taken in succession." Thanks for stopping by at PA but I'm going to move this over to the Macro/Closeup gallery.
