Let There be Light, October 3, 2010

The center of this flower, reminded me of a bright orange and red sunrise. :)

Minor brightness and Contrast adjustments.
Camera Panasonic DMC-TZ3
Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/4.8
Focal Length 31 mm
ISO Speed 100

I was asked to post the camera settings, for my photos. I could not afford an expensive camera body and macro equipment, so I built an attachment for my camera, that included cardboard tubing and lots of duct tape. The above settings, may or may not make any sense since the attachment changes just about everything. :)

No criticism from me other than perhaps a slight increase in DOF to get all of the flower's center nice and sharp. Nice tight composition.

This is lovely, Stephen! Nice point of focus and colors. I like the texture and lines you captured of the flower, too. :toast:

Very nice shot Stephen. I believe that I may speak for many of us but some technical details of the shot would be nice as alot of us here are also trying to learn the craft.

Hello John,

Up until this summer, I have been using a Panasonic DMC-TZ3, for all of my photos. If you go to my portfolio, profile, you can read more about my background and equipment. I could not afford much, but did manage to push my camera to the max. :) It was stolen, this past summer, but in some ways it is a good thing as it has forced me to consider moving up to the next level and invest in a DSLR.

I have pasted below a link, to a NPN forum, where I discuss a little more about the camera I used :)

Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated :)

Well done! Good color and detail. I think I would be tempted to crop a bit from the right side. to the tip of the large bract on the lower right. This lines the center of the flower at the lower right third, and gives it a bit more balance.

Stephen, I like this a great deal! I do wish for the curved petal at the front to be sharper since that is what makes this shot more special than just the center of a flower. Your crop and orientation work well here. I may even consider a 90degree clockwise rotation as an alternative. Beautiful image!

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the suggestions :) This is pretty much the full frame of the image. The camera, I used, has a very small sensor 1/2.5.

I will try out the rotation. :) thanks.

Stephen.

Great details Stephen. I think I like this rotated 90 degrees CW. Nice color too.
