Misty View

As the sun set across White Bay, NL, mist began to rise off the water. The warm light raked the trees, on the opposite shore of Purbeck's Cove, setting them off against the shadows.

Olympus E-5; 50-200 mm lens; 14 teleconverter; tripod mounted
ISO 200; f:5.6; 1/800 second
35 mm equivalent - 560 mm

Copied a section of the background into a small portion of the upper right corner of the image, where the sky was completely blown out.

I always enjoy, a good tele-extraction comp when done well, and the light, exposure, and your comp make it just that. I would boost the sat some, but that's a personal preference.

Nice use of light and shadow Stan. I agree with Morris about adding a bit of contrast/saturation.

Thanks much, Morris and Scott.
Two for two, so far.
Guess that means I'll have to give it a try.

Gorgeous light Stan. Saturation looks just right to me (again, it is all a matter of personal preference). I might be tempted however, to bring out a little more shadow detail on the left.

This is nice Stan, and I like the mood you captured. The saturation looks ok to me but I do agree with Eva about trying for a bit more shadow detail on the left.

Stan, The side light works nicely here.
I like the idea and would agree on the input with regard to the contrast/saturation. I also would join in on any idea about posting a larger version whenever possible.

Thanks for the look and comments, Eva, Nick & Paul. :)

In regards to the shadows, I should have been a bit more careful with the initial exposure.
If I try to bring out a bit more detail there, noise becomes problematic.

Oh well; I'll play some more - see what happens.
On a scale of 1 - 10, with Photoshop and ACR, I'm probably around a 2, so I have a ways to go.

I think it looks good the way you posted it too, I think you could increase the saturation slightly though to make the greens pop a little bit more.

Gary.

As mentioned in an earlier response, I went back to have a look at my PP of this image.
Turns out there was a lot more fog than I had remembered; therefore not much detail in the darker areas of the image.
I did rework it a little bit, though.
I think I like this version a bit better.

Nice...the repost is a big improvement. I would have liked to see a tiny bit more water at the bottom, but overall this is a winner.

I like the concept a lot, and the repost is a big improvement. Nice composition.

EDIT - I forgot to mention - I wish there was more water visible, or none at all.
