Lock - Saranac Lakes

I went canoeing in the Saranac Lakes Chain on Monday and shot this photo at the dock for the canoe carry around the lock between Oseetah lake and the channel to Second Pond. It is one of six frames that I shot meaning to make an HDR composite because of the wide brightness range. Although I made the HDR composite (in PS6)I actually like this one better which is just adjusted using the highlight, shadow and blacks sliders in Lightroom 4. It seems crisper and the colors cleaner than those in the HDR. I was amazed at LR4's ability to pull the tones into gamut. Canon 7D with 18-135mm EFS lens.

Jim,
Very peaceful and pleasant composition, kinda takes you back in time with a childhood feeling about it. Thanks for sharing.
By the way, I visited your web-site and enjoyed your outstanding body of work. You need to get a link to the site on your signature line to make it easier to open. :wavey:

Nicely composed and framed, Jim. I like this area for paddling, too, and September is a great month to see it, with the paper birch starting to turn; the yellows look great with this blue sky.

I tend to avoid HDR too, and it looks like the new versions of PS, ACR and LR will make HDR even easier to avoid. You just sold me on the upgrade.

Hi Wayne, I'm thinking about renting a pontoon boat late this month or early next to do a tour in that area around the time the leaves peak. There should be some great views then.
