Potomac Afterglow

Late summer/fall weather arrived last Saturday and we've had very colorful sunsets ever since, makes me wonder if the fires out west aren't contributing (sadly). This was taken about 15 minutes after sunset last Sunday from the Potomac River near Blockhouse Point. The sun set right behind the tree on the right, which created a compositional challenge. This is one of the results that I liked but I'm interested in other opinions. Processed in PS5 with a TK triple play and luminosity painting. Lovely colors and a nice subdued sheen in the water. The silhouetted rocks and shrubbery leave me wanting some detail.

That sweet time after sunset works again. Well done.

Seems to be a bird perched on limb sticking out of water middle left edge? :wavey:

Lovely wash of color through out this image. The silhouetted shapes in the river, as well as the trees against the sky are really nice. Great job.

I love the silky reflections in the water...I think I would like less sky as that would intensify the focus on the water.

Like the refflections on the water. I would like to see some details in the darker areas.

Very nice color, and I like the deep black silouhettes.

Nice colors and reflections. Sky seems a bit dark compared to the water though, and I'd prefer a higher viewpoint to get separation between all those black shapes in the water and to see the water flowing unobstructed from background to foreground. Hope that makes sense.

Marsel, I was pretty sure that somebody would comment about the reflection being brighter than the sky, but that's in the raw file. I've actually darkened the foreground during processing without touching the sky. I would love to have been 5 - 6 feet higher, but it can't be done at this location without climbing a tree and then you'd have all the leaves and branches in the way.

Rick, there is a cormorant on a that stick. It's really hard to see at NPN sizes, but there's also a goose on the the rock to the cormorant's left.

This is really pretty Mark. The peachy tones are so soothing, and your composition is just right with the smooth water and the layers of islands. Nice work here. I like.

wonderful colours and reflections, Mark. cropping the sky a bit from the top might also work well by placing more emphasis on the water
