Full moon over Iguassu

Just got back from my first trip to Brazil and had to see Iguassu Falls. By shear luck I was there over the full moon and even luckier we had clear skies. Went out for the hotel's "night tour" the first night and went back to the location myself before the crowd the following night so I didn't have 50 people tromping around my tripod with their point and shoots

First time out with my new 5D3, so I got ambitious with this 6 horizontal shot pano (I tried processing the vertical versions and the perspective was just all wrong). Lots of blowing spray across the water, so I can see the right foreground is a little muddy. Otherwise, super happy with the outcome. Additional C and C welcome!

Canon 5D3
Canon 17-40 @ 17mm
f11, ISO 1600, 30 sec. each exposure
6 horizontals (3 top, 3 bottom)
Processed in CS 5.1 and LR 4

Phil,

AWESOME! What a great capture from these famous falls. That big whispy thing of mist looks like it might be something that was a cgi creation for a movie or something. What a great catch with the rainbow, stars, everything. Well done, beautifully executed.

Side comment - trying to figure out why you thought this was Man & Nature? Looks like there may be a light off in the distance just at the top of the falls, but I'm not sure there's anyone who would say this would qualify in Landscape. Not that it matters as you're welcome to post it here. I'm just trying to figure out the hand of man part. No biggie. Great image!

Thanks guys! I was really excited for the possibility of this shot when I looked at the calendar and realized I'd be there for the full moon. It's definitely one of those images where I go, "I can't believe I was there!"

Lon, I was going to post in the Landscape gallery, but there's a walkway under the rainbow, more visible in the larger version, that goes along the edge and out to another overlook. Probably could have cloned it out, but figured I'd play by the rules

Wow!, what an image. Mystical and otherworldly! I understand why you didn't post to the Landscape gallery, but those folks that restrict themselves to only viewing that gallery are missing something special!

Very awesome. I'd prefer to see a bit more space in the foreground for that bit of waterfall near the llc, and if this were mine I'd get rid of those bits of trees sticking in above the horizon on the left. Very minor nits. Well done!

A very otherworldly, stunning image Phil. The mist and rainbow are just icing on the cake. Wonderful capture.

Thanks Phil, I never would have noticed the boardwalk if you hadn't pointed it out. I guess someone might look for it that's familiar with the location, but that wouldn't have been me. ;-)

"...but figured I'd play by the rules..." We appreciate that! :jump:

This is phenomenal effort. Especially, when I read that this is a Panorama and not a simple picture, the appreciation for the image went sky high. I have never noticed a rainbow in the night. But it is astounding to see one. Great effort. :toast: :toast:

Absolutely fantastic shot, the moonlight on the main falls is out of this world... agree with Marsel's minor suggestions about the comp :toast:
