Beach Sunrise

Original title, huh? This is a sunset over Pensacola Beach after a rainstorm. These pools stay filled for several days after a big storm. It was a gorgeous sunrise!

Please see LARGER version for much better details.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for looking.

Hi Bill - Beautiful image. Wonderful diagonals and light. I think the sun looks a little distorted but expected with either digital or film.

I think I mentioned this before, I was born in Pensacola when my Dad was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base after the Korean War. ...... don't think I could ever deal with the heat and humidity there. My parents always talked about the white sands and beautiful coast there and this surely fits their description...... So maybe I will have to visit there at some point..... but only in deep winter months of Florida if they exist.

The fg detail is sweet, Bill--but gotta be honest, this one doesn't come together for me. The sun is too far left (which also adds the distortion effect) and i would have preferred the pools closer to the front--theyre the real interesting part here and they're a bit pushed back. The sky is also too dark. Man, im being rough on you today...

Sublime light Bill. But is a sunrise or a sunset  I like everything about it except for the nuclear sun. I know digital has a hard time with the sun and wish it was tamed a bit.

Yes, this is the type of subject matter I expect to see from you
I enjoy the scene a lot, the light brings so much appeal. But the sky looks a bit underexposed, making its color go into that grey/blue/cyan which is less appealing for me. Perhaps you have differently exposed files so you can work more on that part of the scene?

Gorgeous, love the dappled light throughout, it has a very warm appealing feeling to it. Beautiful work Bill.

Love the light in this Bill. The highlighted grasses are really sweet. Nice comp too.

Nice work.
Great lines and texture. I very much like the edged-lighting on the vertical grass.
Wonder feeling of depth.
Wish I had been there but doubt I could have seen this as well as you.

Love the fg grasses and the beautiful light on the sands. The sun itself is a little distracting but this is still an excellent image.

Bill, this is truly in your wheelhouse when it comes to your specialty. You've posted a multitude of beach-scapes over the years, and all are well-worth a review IMO. The backlighting really sets up the FG foliage and the dabble light across the sand.
I do like the offset sun in this scene a bit of a break from a centered one we typically see. However, I might try to lighten the upper sky above the cloud line slightly, but not so much it draws away from the rest of the scene....

Bill, I really like the fg vegetation and sand dunes catching the sunlight... the diagonal line is real nice, but I wish there was a bit more room to the left of the sun

Bill,

The light captured here is sweet and golden. The large version really shows well. Yeah, the sun is a little nuclear, but what can we expect? It's the sun! The rays up top really actually help to tame things down actually and in the end, I'm not bothered by the sun at all. In fact, I really like how the angles all line up where the sun, shadows and patch of grass all line up in one strong diagonal.

Gotta agree with Paul's comments. Right in your wheel house! :toast:

Looks like Florida to me. The sun comes up and defies outside control. Nothing we can do about it, except embrace it as you have done here, Bill. Like the comp and how the right side fg grass runs in a diagonal line to the sun.

A beauty of a beach scene Bill. I like the comp with all the grasses and sand and a nice little pond. Lots to look at. Add the warm light and shadow this is real nice.

Wow, Florida. One can shoot the sun rising off of the coast then drive to shoot the sun setting off of the coast, too. Can’t do that in California….
Love the light. I agree about brightening the sky a bit.

Nice shot BIll, love the soft magenta on the sands. Agree with an earlier commentor about the sun being hot but hey, the sun really is nuclear! Strong lines in the fg leading to the nuclear inferno. Well done. :toast:

I like it. For anyone else, the sky would appear too dark, but for your image, it works perfectly. The balance of light here is very nice, and I like the way the sun turned out.
