Grinnell Glacier Melt

by Wick Smith

This was taken at the edge of Grinnell Glacier (Glacier National Park) 9/14/12. They say all the glaciers will be gone by 2030. It is fascinating to see the rock that is contained within the glacier and where they get dumped when it melts. It's a moonscape in the area where it has already melted.

2 shot blend - handheld. 5DIII, 16-35mm at F16, ISO 640

This is excellent Wick, a beautifully wild, lonely and rugged looking landscape.

Nice imge and very sad story. Markedly different than when I was there just a few years ago.
Congrats on the WP!

Congratulations on a beautiful image, Wick, and for the Pick, too. It's destined to be a fine historical photograph. And a sad commentary on what we might've done… Too bad for us…

Love the point of view... sometimes we can be so cruel to the world in which we live and need to survive.
