The intense red of sunrise looks great with the fantastic detail in the large version, Steve. The deep cyan of the sky makes an interesting contrast with the warm light on the landscape. I think this would also look good with a little less sky, perhaps as a pano, or even cropping a bit from the left to maintain the aspect ratio. Lots of compositional possibilities with a scene as nice as this, and you chose one that looks better as the print gets bigger.

Man, this is a beautiful classic Colorado autumn scene! However, your 'development' has drained almost all of the contrast out of this scene. Almost looks HDR-ish, in fact.

John
It is not HDR. I actually wanted a lower contrast "pastel look" and if you saw the print I believe you would reconsider your comment

The color and composition here is wonderful, but the midtones and dark tones seem a bit muddy. It looks as though you have perhaps cranked the shadow recovery a bit too far. I would try to brighten the highlights and darken the shadows to help restore a more natural sense of contrast.

This is a beautiful autumn scene. I love the composition and the colors....but somehow I think it could use some more contrST

A lovely scene. This probably looks much better as a print, but here it looks muddy.

Hmmmm...'reconsider'?

Also, I stated 'HDR-like', noticing that you 'developed' this within LR/PS only.

Beautiful autumn scene Steve. I was going to mention the contrast as well, but then I opened the larger view. I think that version probably more closely resembles your print. I do think this smaller version does lack some micro contrast. I certainly see the look you're going after and again, the large version looks great.

There's a lot to see in the large version. And the color and tones are spot on in it.

Really like the comp and colors but agree that it could be punched up more contrast-wise. It feels a bit unnaturally soft, like it needs some tone-mapping. Need to watch the saturation though. That looks pretty good as is.

Steve. I like your photo. Use to live in Colorado and nothing beats their aspens in the fall. IMHO! I do wish the colors were abit more intense, for me anyway. Do you know the name of the mountain? Thanks for sharing.
