Mystic Awakening

Innere Wetterspitze at 10,1666 ft. makes a brief but spectacular appearance during sunrise near the Nurnberger Hut. This was taken during my recent trip to Austria's Stubai Alps. This hut was one of nearly 1,000 alpine huts in the country. They love their alpine culture!

5DII, 24-105L, ISO 100, 6 sec exposure.
1 exposure for most everything, another to keep the extreme FG sharp.

Very mystical. I like it a lot though the pinks look slightly odd in the sky..

Peter - I agree. The pinks were surrounded by a yellowish halo which I tried to show in the image. A large file shows it more, but it was some unique light for sure. Cloud movement during the exposure may be influencing as well. I was playing around with darkening the sky some more, but it looked too dark when compared to the FG. Maybe I need to go back that direction. Thanks.

It must've been awesome to be there. It's a good shot, but the composition just doesn't excite me that much, as it doesn't really 'flow' right. I think the water flowing out of the frame is part of it, as well as the lack of midground (though I realize there really wasn't any midground!)

Visually very striking and aesthetic. However I also agree with Doug that there's something disjointed about it that disturbs me a little.

I aggree that I wish that water flowed toward the peak or maybe the other direction - out of the frame wasn't ideal. I tried to compose where the best light was, the stream didn't exactly cooperate

I like the mood and the comp. The magenta in the sky looks a bit weird to me.

One of the joys and frustrations of nature photography is that nature seldom cooperates with the photographer. I like this a lot, but I agree also with Doug's analysis. The joy of it is that one's storehouse of knowledge, and respect for nature, increases each time a record is made like this. It is a lovely and awesome place, and you have done it good service. :toast:

The subtle colors and atmosphere create a very cool mood. Beautiful scene, and the bit of the bright river that comes into view down in the valley adds a ton to this. Thanks for the large version!

Hi Harry - I think the real show here is the cloud shrouded mountain peak. Love that as well as the sky. Maybe a crop of the flowing water to ~4X5 or 6X7 ratio may be better since others seem to be bothered by that. Just a thought, but I like it as is. I think the diagonal flow adds to the comp and provides a counter current to the line of cloud shroud. You can't please everyone especially other photographers. They will always have their own take on a scene.

Really nice comp and a perfect atmosphere. Only nit is that the magenta feels so intense and a bit painted in. It may be accurate, just feels a bite circumscribed by the blue clouds.

Tony & Stan - I made some adjustments - turns out that the blues needed adjustment, thought it might be the whites or highlights. Lots of blues in the image I guess. I darkened the sky a bit as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

Very nice shot Harry. I like the mood the layer of fog gives it, and the repost does look much better..
