The color contrast here is uniquely enabled by the brilliant blue of Crater Lake

Optical illusion! I first thought the blue was sky, viewed through tree tops, until I saw the ripples. A fun picture, but I wish there was something here to anchor the image in reality.

I love the idea, but there's too much blue, needs more green and especially red to balance. If i crop so only the bottom third is left, i like it much better. :wavey:

Wonderfully confusing. (Although it makes me kind of dizzy -- but my grandkids seem to enjoy spinning around on the swings to get dizzy, so that's not such a bad thing. )

I think I would like this more if I could see more of the trees. (Not sure if that would cure my dizziness, though.)

Cool shot. I thought Crater Lake as soon as I saw that blue.

Beautiful colors and stunning clarity. A crop from the top would balance the distribution of color and add strength (IMO). Great concept

Marvelous! I love the top down view of the "sky".. really gets my head thinking.

Something seems "off" with this image. Is this a constructed image? If it's not, I apologize, but it looks like one for several reasons.

If it is a single image, what equipment did you shoot it with? Did you perspective correct it in software?

@ Brad: this is about the simplest image I've shot. It's a single exposure, hand-held shot: 1/25s f/16.0 at 70.0mm iso400. The only processing done on this was RAW conversion and levels adjustments, saturation/contrast tweaks. What you are looking at is simply a view of Crater Lake from the trail down to the shoreline - as seen between the trees. The incredible blue is 100% natural. It is NOT a reflection of the sky - sky has nothing to do with it. It's the immense depth and clarity of the lake that causes strong red/IR absorption, so any light escaping the lake is a deep blue. The key here is you are looking DOWN, not up. So the perspective is not what one would normally think it is. The ripples in the blue should indicate it is water, not sky you are looking at.

I might darken the top. Ideally more red and green would have given a nicer balance but perhaps not possible. Still I like this a lot, striking and original work.
