Lucy, hostas are one of my favorite plants! I have lots of shade beds and probably have about 70 different varieties of hostas. They can have such beautiful shadings in the leaves which your photo captures well. As far as comp, I think I would have liked to have seen either the whole clump with no cut off leaves, or a close focus highlighting just one leaf. Hard to know what the interest "hook" is in this picture. Would like to have seen this in color out of curiousity.

Lucy - I like the main pivot here from where all leaves seem to emerge. Conversion looks pretty nice too. Compositions are personal but Carolyn makes some good suggestions as well.

Lucy:
I like the shape, texture and variegation in this image. The B&W conversion looks good. Although the hook seems to be in the center, there are also some secondary hooks elsewhere making the eyes wander around a bit. Carolyn's composition suggestions sound good.

Thanks for the feedback. Carolyn, I did have a closer crop though not on just one leaf. For me the interest is toward the center and how the leaves radiate out from that point. Here's the color version with closer crop.
