Colorado Sky

This was taken this fall, or about a week ago. The lighting was such, however, that the scene would best be represented in B+W. I'm on the fence about this, so comments are welcome.

The clouds only lasted about seven minutes before they not only changed shape, but also vanished, leaving the sun to have the entire sky to itself. I really enjoyed the flowing, or sweeping feel of the clouds, and also the light beams barely appearing on the right side of the frame. I also liked the 'balls of fluff', leading all the way to the distant trees. What I'm NOT sure about, was:

1.) the choice of composition
2.) the B+W conversion (is it a bit too much?)
3.) ---is the fg and middle-ground just a bit too busy?

Anyways, I had a good time out in the field that day. Feel free to throw me to either side of the fence with your honest opinions!

Canon 60d 10-22mm @ 10mm
ISO 100 --- f/11 --- 3 exposures (1 for sky, then 2 for landscape DOF)

Oh, BTW, toss in idea's for a title...

The B&W works well with this image and the sky is very dramatic. I like the composition. The eye is drawn into the image to the bright area at the end of the cloud.

I think you've pulled together some great elements here into a nicely balanced comp. Perhaps the contrast is a little strong with the highlights really blazing out, especially in the sky. I thought perhaps a much softer distant sky as I feel the fg flowers really are the focal point and the sky is pulling me away from them. I really like this shot.

I like the conversion, but I do prefer more contrast in conversions than most. I also like the comp and the use of the cool clouds as the focal interest. Maybe lighten the middle ground a touch to allow the eye to flow to the horizon a little easier? And, I think there is enough structure in the plants that it does not seem busy to me. I like the shot.

Nathan, when I look at this image it almost seems like two separate images, i don't feel the 50/50 comp works here. I think cropping about an inch off the bottom helps the comp out.

Thanks, all, for the input. I will definitely play around with some of your thoughts, and who knows? Perhaps I'll get a re-post later...
