Aurora Over Grand Teton

Imagine being out with the stars at 3am with the milky-way overhead and the faint glow of northern lights dancing in the distance as temperatures drop to a cool thirty-five degrees. Your in complete solitude and awe as the sound of howling wolves and faint echoes of bugling elk can be heard across the valley below. This was my experience while capturing this shot a few hours ago and it's moments like these which define my passion for nature photography.

Thanks for looking!

This is great, Drew. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and feeling while you were there making this image. Really nice!

Very beautiful. There is something in the image that looks like a right parenthesis. It is a ghost near the clouds on the right, very large from top to bottom, about the same brightness as the light rays. It doesn't look naturally occurring.

Thanks for sharing the experience.

Wow! I hear and understand your sentiment. But would it be any less if the camera was not with you? Would your appreciation of nature be any less? I know for me it would not, in fact in some cases it makes me appreciate it even more.

Thanks for all your comments!

Youssef, the camera is definitely along for the ride but I find that photography is the best excuse yet to visit some of the most incredible places on the planet. Never easy pulling an all-nighter or getting up at 3am in early spring for sunrise but worth every minute as I'm sure you all know!

What an interesting capture of all the sky colors, science fiction effect. Unique way of seeing the aurora.
