I originally posted the full-frame version of this in the Landscape Gallery two years ago, capturing the color transition of the bigtooth maple. But I shortly thereafter grew to prefer this 4x5 crop posted here.

I'm heading back to Zion again on Saturday for my annual three-week autumn photography pilgrimage.

Jim, I agree with your thought on the 4x5 crop. This looks much nicer with the FG cropped up from the original post you've linked here. This FG works nicely as a lead-in-to the very colorful scene overall. Excellent contrasting colors throughout the image too.

I like the flow of colors from green leaves on the right to the red leaves on the left. It certainly illustrates well the transition of the seasons. The bottom half of your picture has its own interesting elements with the roots, rocks, pine needles, and pine cones. In fact you could almost have two distinct photos (top & bottom) from this one image. However, the distinct parts work well together with the foreground providing a good lead-in to the more colorful top of the photo. Nice shot, Jim.

Have a wonderful pilgrimage; sounds like a really special thing to do!

Beautiful color transition in the maple. For me, the leading lines of the tree roots and foreground rocks are what make this special.
