This Silvertip Grizzly was digging for food by a pullout. He actually was foraging with a very dark Grizzly. We spotted them three or four times during our trip (in the Yukon portion) and he was always with that dark bear (of whom I'll post a picture of soon)! Anyway, he had just taken a break frome digging for roots to look at something. I took some pictures, and soon after he went back to his business of diggin'. It was pretty cool watching them both work for roots like this; you can just see the power they have as they move heavy rocks out of the way to get food. I'm sure I'll be posting a couple more of this guy

.
This is cropped from vertical to a 4x5 horizontal format. Now, I would've liked to have a little more room below, but there were some distracting elements down there and I wanted plenty of space above his head.
Thanks for lookin'!

19 commentsA powerful picture of a powerful Bear. I like this as presented and I see no benefit in having additional room at the bottom since three of the paws are hidden in the brush. The colors, lighting and details are good. The face and those claws are outstanding, Well Done.

I just love the side ways glance and raised paw, adds to the image.

Great Capture. Excellent pose from this well trained Guy !!:) the raised paw showing his claws is added interest. Claws seem long from End of season foraging, Maybe a Little Tight overall, If you had more room.? Is Silvertip coat common in late season ?
Thanks for sharing.

This is a nice shot of a very nice-looking grizzly. Things that stand out for me are the colour (those autumn leaves add a lot) and that up-lifted paw (that shows those claws so nicely). The composition works well for me - tho' I can see some thinking it might be a little tight to the right side of the frame.
Cheers...thanks for sharing this - looks like you had a great trip!
