American Kestrel

This male was nestled down in the rabbitbrush to avoid the frigid, early morning breeze but at the same time trying to warm in the sun. Generally, I like to see more of the bird than we do here but I liked the behavior and the demure look from this fierce, little falcon.

7D, 1/3200 (I didn't need this much SS), f/6.3, ISO 400, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 1/2/12, cropped to 80% of original image, exposure adjustment in ACR, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, no bait, no decoy, not set up or called in

I really like the sleepy expression exhibited by the Kestrel. The brush is a very nice perch in terms of color and texture for the kestrel. I would be thrilled to have taken this one Ron, nice job. :toast:

Ron, this image looks quite nice to my eyes. Nice pose, nice perch, fine lighting, natural sky, nice detail on the subject. I definitely like this image!

Real nice - I like how the perch turns into the falcon.... I wish the kestrels here let me get that close
