Gallinule?

Taken at Circle B Bar Preserve near Lakeland, Florida

1/1600 at f5.6 and ISO500 EC -1/3
Canon 500mm and 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

Thinking its a Juvenile Purple Gallinule -- its a book id as I don't have field experience on this bird. Wishing the heavy green stem was not in the background but I like rest of the colors.

Definitely JPG. These birds are difficult to get in the clear, especially in grass. I have no problem at all with any of the habitat here.

Your ID is correct, as Phil has already said. And I agree with his comments on this as well.

Scott, I like the light and your exposure and I see no issue at all with anything in the setting. The bird's too tight for my tastes though.

I like the setting, light and habitat but it's too tight in the frame for my tastes. :toast:

Very nice light, the BG is a bit busy but I really don't find it to distracting. I like the way he is gripping the perch.

I agree, a little bit tight, but wow those are some amazing colors and beautiful vegetation. This view really shows off those very functional yellow legs.

A nice look at this youngster and it's new plumage, very sharp, and I really like the way it's long toe's are wrapped around that skinny stem.

Sweet Portrait Scott!!!

Excellent shot of the bird in it's habitat. Are they as elusive in Florida as his relatives here in Europe ? Like the colors and warm light in this shot. Well done, cheers, Hans

I love the beautiful quality of the light in this image. It has produced rich color that highlights this lovely bird and his legs. The bit of color in the flowers brings a nice relief amount the browns. Pleasing product overall.
