Posing Grizzly

This grizzly has to be the darkest one I've ever seen! She is the grizzly I was talking about that is always hanging out with the silvertip I posted previously. We had just found them early in the morning foraging for food. After waiting for them to clear the brush, she popped out all the sudden! I quickly grabbed the shot before we decided that it was time to roll up the vehicle window (they were getting a little close for comfort). In case you were wondering, the bright spot on her nose is dried up mud. She had been rooting around for a while, so she got kinda dirty  .

This image was taken just outside of Kluane National Park, Yukon, Canada.

Thanks for looking!

That's a very intense portrait. Nice array of rich browns in the coat, very attractive. I do wish the foreground grass stems were not in the frame. They just aren't strong enough elements to make a positive contribution. Still, who can not be wowed by a detailed, well exposed full on grizzly shot like this!? :toast:

You handled this nicely Jenaya considering the strong light. Must have been a pretty thrilling experience and good call on the time to leave.

The close up makes it look like a really big bear. An interesting and inquisitive look and I even like the wet nose. Excellent shot with good detail, the larger image was a pleasure to view, way to go.

Hi Jenaya,

The colour and detail on this one are nice - and the bear does have an interesting focused (or almost "quizzical") look on its face. I'm in agreement with Gary about how the out-of-focus grass in the foreground - and especially those ones overlapping the bear - have a bit of a negative impact on the shot (for me).

Thanks for sharing this one - I'm guessing that shooting it was a pretty memorable experience!

Cheers...

Nice shot Jenaya! The oof fg grasses have already been mentioned so I won't repeat that, good light and detail on the face though.

nice portrait here Jenaya - looks quite dark compared to images of other grizzly bears I've seen
nice detail and the right amount of sharpening on the fur (easy to make it look stick-like)
I don't find the grass that bothersome, though they can be toned down through burning a bit... :wavey:

That is indeed an odd colored brownie. But some black bears are brown so I guess it's only fair to go the other way too. You've really got that D7k/200-400 combo dialed in. Nicely done.

hello Jenaya

Really Sharp & Detailed Where it counts.

I find for me... A little tight, especially those Beautiful ears. But I like the foreground Grasse very much, especially if slightly toned down some!

This is a Great gallery, to get some different critiques and thoughts!!:)

Enjoy seeing your Images, Thanks for sharing.:)

I like this a lot Jenya! I agree with Morkel about the sharpening...just the right amount. It's easy to over-sharpen furry animals. I like the look on his face and the framing is nice. The only grasses that bother me a little are the OOF on the left which overlaps the bear. The remaining grass has no negative impact as far as I am concerned and they give a sense of environment.
