Bachelor #2

After leaving the spike horn, I walked a bit more and arrived at an overlook where I saw a half dozen does feeding. A few more filtered in, then this buck arrived. I didn't get a good clean shot of him and they all moved on, so I did, too. I caught up with a group of does and was setting up to take a few photos when bachelor #2 showed up again. He was clearly interested in the does but kept his distance. Accepted black-tail courting etiquitte. He did some antler polishing with tree branches and vegetation on the ground. Then began feeding but periodically looked up to look at something. I couldn't see anything so I just kept taking photos. While not the best pose for eye contact with the camera, we'll see tomorrow what had caught his attention. The fog was disapating some and more direct light was reaching him, so I warmed this up a bit. Sharpening for the web but no other changes to the image. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Peter, some times you have to take what nature will give you. In this case you did well even if the buck did not fully cooperate with you. Looking forward to your next deer post. Unfortunately our local nature center allows limited hunting, so trying for deer photos is abit limited. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Peter,

I preferred your previous post a little more - and I think the main reason is that in this one the out-of-focus bush in the lower left corner is distracting me quite a bit (between being a different colour than the rest of the foreground and being the only OOF foreground element it sticks out quite a bit for me). But looking forward to the next one!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
