I saw several GBH's the day I visited Ridgefield on the grass fields hunting voles. I was somewhat surprised that they would pursue small rodents but I guess voles are a menu item.

Awesome. I've never seen this action. I guess living on the coast I've only seen them with fish and frogs and assumed that was their palate. Too cool. ( And great techs too. Nice and sharp and a perfect view of the vole--way to go)

I like the look on the voles face -- at least this one gets his lunch.

I agree - awesome!

I've seen this in NJ, but always from a distance.

Send this guy to my yard! The voles have eaten the roots of most of my plants. Always thought that GBH only ate fish, crabs, etc. Nice exposure and details throughout the image.

Super shot Chuck! Great action, interesting behavior and nice image quality. These birds regularly eat voles around here during mid-winter when most of the ponds freeze up.

A wonderful behavior shot Chuck, nicely composed with a great look at the face of the vole, congrats. Something I have seen before (at Ridgefield) but not yet made a fine photograph of. :toast:
