Sublime View

Here is a view seen from Point Sublime from our RMNP group shoot over Labor Day. I am wondering if image as whole works for you, and if the splitting of the temple peaks works to channel your view. Other suggestions are welcome, of course. (larger 1200px provided)

Nikon D90, Nikon 70-300@116mm f/8, ISO 200, CPL.

I really like this, but am wondering if you have a horizontal presentation that doesn't cut off the peak? The layering of the canyon is what interests me, so the bottom half seems unnecessary. Other than that, everything else seems perfect.

Beautiful light. a crop up from the bottom would probably strengthen this image, and make it easier for the lines of the canyons to lead my eye through it.

I think your composition works great to draw the eye back into the image. The sunlit rock in the background also does this nicely. The color intensity is also really good. I've been going back and forth on this but I might consider a crop off the bottom as the image to me seems a little bottom heavy due to the relatively blocky nature (in both color and mass) of the canyon wall.

Wish I could have made the group shoot, will do my best to make the next one.

Classic canyon beauty Doug. Those reds sing.

This work for me! Great light, and your 'development' is perfect. I also think that cropping the bottom would add a better balance to the scene, although I'm not sure where I would start. What a trip you guys had! Very good work here, Doug.

Thanks for the comments and the bottom crop suggestion. I was hoping the bottom portiion of the image would give the feeling of the canyon's depth and also not put the red/yellow border at the 50/50 split position.
Peter, I do not have zoomed-in horizontal shot with the back point sunlit. I have a wider one that incorporates the faint rainbow though.

This works for me as presented but I agree on cropping a bit from the bottom for a better balance.

Doug - the upper 1/2 hold my attention much more than the lower part, due to the nice highlights on those rock faces as others have pointed out. I think the canyon depth idea would work better if there was an angled canyon in view, but you have essentially a flat wall facing you. I would like to see the faint rainbow shot too!

Superb light and color, Doug, and the receding layers are really nice. While I could see cropping this as suggested, to me, the layers of the rock strata in the lower half of the image help to provide enough interest and complement the receding layers in the upper half. Either way, the image works very well.

I like this as is. The comp especially with the lack of sky creates an interesting abstract view of the canyon.

This works very well for me, Doug. I like all the red/orange hues and how they're scattered through the image to keep my eyes moving. I also wonder about a horizontal version emphasizing the top half, but that's a very different image.
