October was a wonderful month for me this year. First, we got a pretty good fall color year in Northern Michigan and then I got to spend a week in the Great Smoky Mountains - where I hope to live someday soon. Anyhow, although this view has been photographed many times, as has just about everything else under the sun, the rays radiating to the peaks below made this special for me.

Nikon D800, 70-200, f16, ISO 100, 1/25 second. GND filter.

C&C appreciated.

The light here is really sweet. The large version is a must see. This is a beautiful look at the Smokies.

That's some gorgeous light spilling onto those distant ridge lines; a true beauty Tom. I really like this, my only suggestion being to open the foreground just a little to make that closest ridge more visible (it's especially hard to see in the small version, and just visible in the large).

The colors, layers and the clouds are great. There's a bit too much black foreground for my taste, but I sure do enjoy the top 3/4ths.

Hi Tom, This is beautiful. I can see this working well without as much dark foreground, but it works nice as is too. It must have been wonderful being there to experiance this as it happened.

Sweet shot Tom. I agree on a a little exposure correction on the darker foreground :toast:

Thanks for the comments all. You are all right, but I had a choice to make in processing. To me, the image is about the ridge lines catching the last light. By brightening the foreground ridge you could start to see some of the trees. I think that the answer is a slight lightening and cropping to minimize the amount of dark. Will perhaps work on this and re-post later.
