Turks Cap Lilly

This was taken this last June after a light rain. It was early in the morning and I used a flash to just highlight the flower and darken the background. There was just enough of a breeze that this was the best way to get the flower sharp.

Canon 50D
60mm macro
ISO 100, f16 @1/60
flash was set to -1/3 setting

Wayne:While I'm generally not a fan of direct flash lighting on flora, in this case your technique worked very nicely. My only tiny 1¢ nit would be to have a tiny bit more room on the left side but that's pretty trivial. Well done.>=))>

Wayne:
Beautiful flowers :toast: The light is a little too unidirectional looks a little harsh and would probably work better with some filters or diffuser.

As Bill suggested, maybe a tad more room to the left, and possibly a bit less flash so there is less seen in the BG.

Like how the flash darkened the background and emphasized the lily. Clean up the background a little more and you will have a winner!

Nice, contrasty lighting, Wayne - very good use of flash. Just wonder how this might look with the stem centred ?

Hi Wayne :wavey Good: creative use of the flash, i generally dont like direct flash lit scenes, but this is an exception. i dont see harsh highlights. and the colors are rich and vivid
