Bog Life
by Tom Haxby
This little scene caught my eye in a bog in West Virginia's Blackwater Falls State Park. Not sure what the smaller plant is, but I think the green is a moss of some sort. I just liked the textures and the star shaped green shoots. Not sure how this will show on the web. The colors were very difficult to get right.
C&C appreciated.

Interesting how the mind construes an image like this, perhaps as an abstract; it reminded me of a constellation of stars.
The moss definitely holds the eye in the frame, but I always notice edges for whatever reason, and it occurred to me that perhaps a thin monochrome "frame", a strike of black, could help to relieve the tension of the open edges. Just a thought realizing that perhaps you want the expansive feeling along the edges. Or maybe a bit more vignette. Anyway, I enjoyed viewing it as-is.
Postscript: I just went back and had another look at your image and the edges, and I can now see why you would want to be careful in not altering them. There is this little emergent plant at the bottom center and some things around the edges that the mind interprets as maybe a skull, especially in the lower right. And there are some interesting things going on in the upper left corner too.
So I think it's perfect as-is.
Wow, what a great find! The arrangement of the neon-green little micro-yuccas (for lack of knowledge of these things,) is wonderful! This is excellent! Great color, texture and detail.
Very minor suggestion. If it were mine, I would shave off just a little off the left to make the green thingy in the ULC be a little more equidistant on the top and left - if that makes sense. Or in other words, the left edge is just repeating info not adding any value and actually making look left. By cropping a little bit from the left I think the intimate scene is more comfortably framed. Just my thought, hope it makes sense.
