Sunrise, Mather Point

A controlled burn on the north rim resulted in a canyon full of smoke over night leading to some interesting conditions at sunrise. Here you can see Vishnu Temple and Wotans Throne peaking up through the smoke.
C&C Welcome.

Sweet! What unique conditions...very interesting. I would have preferred less rock and more bg, but overall very nice.

Very interesting shot. Never would have guessed the location. Had I been there I would have just been bummed out by the smoke/haze. That's what I call making lemonade out of lemons. Well done.

That is truly a unique image with some excellent light. Perhaps one of the most unique canyon images ever. Very nice!

Great abstract feel to this. The smoke was a bonus in this situation. Not sure what the bright points are on the right, might consider cloning them out. Way cool.

Thanks for the comments!! The bright points on the lower right is the sun reflecting off the roof of a small rest house on the Kaibab Trail. Thought about cloning them out but in the full res version you can actually make out what it is so I left them in. I was definitely bummed when I first saw the smoke rising from the north rim but it made for some interesting conditions at sunrise!

That's amazing. It has a surreal feel to it; the foreground is so sharp and the background lost in the fog. I love what the rich color brings too. Very unique and nicely done.

I like all the details in the foreground rocks and how the smokey background tells the location without overwhelming the main subject. The lighting is wonderful.

Phil,

This is wonderful and unique! I say unique because of the motion and layers of smoke (of course it looks like fog, which would really make this unique - I'll go with the fog explanation myself...) Beautiful warm light onthe rock formation, which is also somewhat unique.

No nits really, although you might consider cloning out the bright tip atop the shadowed ridge in the LR quadrant. minor though.

Love the color/sat too. Beautiful image.

Beautiful lighting conditions, not sure about all that FG rock, perhaps a small crop off the bottom would help to emphasize the smoke and distant mountains.
