Welcome to Yosemite!

Yup, this was the first scene I stood in having arrived in the valley. It also just happened to be Lon, Preston, and Kyle the first three people I saw there as well. Anyway, was pretty excited and eager to shoot this. Came back later when it was a little darker to get some streaking of the foam. It's funny, when I first opened this up in post, I was immediately underwhelmed. Not sure why, but with some cropping and processing, I think I like it now, almost as much as I had anticipated? What do you think? Please see the larger one.

Thanks,

Beautiful scene Chris. The colors reflecting in the water really add a nice touch.

Chris,

This is gorgeous - exactly how I remember it. It seems just like yesterday... wait, just exactly two weeks ago! Time sure flies...

The colors were this intense folks. And as an added note, this is the first time in all the years that I've been coming to the valley that we were able to stand in this location. It's always under water, at least until this year. The Merced is very, very low due to lack of snow last winter. The good news, it created some wonderful and new photo ops. This is one of them.

Chris, the comp is outstanding, everything "flows" beautifully. Even the motion of the leaves in the LR fit right in, as do the granite cliffs above. I did not shoot this wider view and now I regret it. ;-)

Beautiful, no suggestions what so ever.

Chris, This is one beautiful image!! Great comp and light to really show this scene off. The colors and that reflection are wonderful and then your choice of shutter speed worked so well with the water. I like everything I see here ...a lot!

An amazing composition with a nice feel of motion for me, always keeping me within the frame. I also enjoy the beautiful autumn color palette.

My initial thought was this was a bit busy and too much going on for a single image. The longer I looked the more I enjoyed it. I think it really works as presented. The reflections and colors are awesome and the white water is perfect. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely, Chris! Wonderfully composed and beautiful colors. The diagonal FG in the
river is a plus. Also nice reflective colors. I have no nits.

Gorgeous color, detail and very natural feel to the balance of light throughout the frame. The diverging flow causes a conflict in my head. Which one to follow? A beautiful scene well captured but seems conflicted to me, whatever that's worth.

No reason to feel underwhelmed about this one, Chris. The composition and color are beautiful and the soft lighting really helps to bring out all that lovely color. I also like the reflection.

Beautiful light, color and detail. These intimate little nooks and crannies are missed by most who are overwhelmed by the valley icons, but celebrated quite effectively in this image. Nice job Chris

Chris,

Just as I remember it as well. The colors were really rich just as you show, we all marveled at how rich they were. You have a great capture of this location and it was the first for me as the river was so low. Just got films back today and sorting through them. Will be sharing soon!

That's a great autumn scene Chris. It showcases everything we like about this season. Lines and balance work great in this composition. Great to see your results from this trip.

Wow, probably one of your best of recent images here, Chris. It's a gorgeous scene and captured as well as post processed perfectly. I like that the granite in the BG held a cooler look to the much warmer FG area too, looks very natural. :toast:
