Colors of History

It's been a while since I have been on here or posted anything. Always great work to view.

This is a more intimate view of the Painted Hills than most of my work from there. Looking for all honest feedback. Additionally please chime in on color tones and hues if they seem off (assuming you have a calibrated monitor). I just got a new system built and calibrated my monitors yet want to make sure nothing is funky.

Looks great. Very nice intimate take from the Painted Hills. This really works for me, particularly the composition.

Adrian,

Great to see an image from. I so much prefer these intimate comps from the Painted Hills over the broader landscape views. This one is exceptional; strong comp, great design, beautifully crafted.

Hard to comment on the color since I don't have a personal reference of having been there. I think the saturation may lean a little strong (mostly the burgundy,) but overall the colors are quite beautiful to my eye and <calibrated> monitor. Certainly falls within personal choice and license. Not sure why I even bothered to mention it... ;-)

Wonderful image.

Adrian, your image has great impact on me. I appreciate the elegant flow in the composition as well as the subtle colors, working interestingly together for me.

This looks pretty accurate to what I remember seeing the times I was there. This is also my favorite area within the hills themselves. The repeating folds, and wonderful concentration of colors there always gets my attention. I'd love to shoot it, but never had enough lens to get in tight enough. One day I'll go back again with a 70-200 in the bag!

Hard to comment on the verisimilitude of the colors since I've yet to be there! It is beautiful for sure. The S curve works very well compostionally.

I like everything about this, Adrian. I've never seen the Painted Hlls composed this way.
It works. The colors and tones look good on my monitor.

Colors look good! Real nice shot. Very minor nit: the white strip at center beaks the flow a bit.

Thanks everyone for the comments thus far. They are always appreciated.

Stan, you gets bonus points for your comment. Great eye! I completely agree and noticed that when I was photographing the scene. However the loss to the hills in the back right moving down enough to completely eliminate that small strip was not worth it to me in the end.

Hey, good to see you posting again, Adrian! Welcome back, and your post is a beauty. Excellent comp, colors, and the soft light lets all of the goodness through. Funny how the shots of these hills always remind me of colored pencil sharpening shavings. Fascinating image, and very well done! :toast:

Wow, striking! Just love the colors and flow here. Light area at the very top seemed to interrupt the "visuality" just a bit.

Wonderful comp Adrian, the lines are beautiful. The burgundy does seem strong compared to how my eye remembers the hills, but it may have been a processing decision (and I like it).
