hi all,

it's iceland again. this one is from the same morning as my last post. a small, muddy stream in the Hverir high-temperature area accompanied by a sunrise straight from hell (seriously, the light was unbelievable).

you can read a bit more about the image on my blog.

Hverir high-temperature area, Iceland

Canon 5DMKII, EF 17-40 @ 20mm, GND
ISO 100, f/11, 3.2 seconds
two exposures blended for DR, processed in LR and PS
cloned out a few ropes

best,
joerg

This is very different than most of the Icelandic images we see here and on other sites. I like how the stream flows from turquoise to magenta Joerg. Needless to say the sky is beautiful with amazing color.

Beautiful warm/cool color contrast Joerg. Also, a great comp with the leading line of the stream pulling your eye through the scene. A gorgeous sky tops it all off. Great image!

I find the foreground, with the wonderful curves, textures, design and contrasting color to be the star of this image. While the colorful sky is beautiful, it almost detracts to some degree from the incredible foreground. I'd almost be tempted to crop about half of the sky, which probably goes against the grain for many. Just an opinion of course. Gorgeous skies like this are probably pretty rare in Iceland I imagine. Either way, an incredible image.

Jorge,

Aside from that intense and beautiful sky, the composition here is excellent! The texture and patterns in the earth are one thing, and the color and leading in of the stream is yet another wonderful feature of this image. The transition from turquoise/blue to the magenta of the reflected sky is beautiful. At first I thought the reflected color of magenta in the water didn't match the more salmon/red intense color in the clouds, but then I convinced myself that the magenta mixed with the natural turquoise color of the water might just produce a slightly different reflected color? Am I right in thinking this? ;-)

Regardless, quite a spectacular light and color event, beautifully crafted with an excellent composition.

There's a lack of scale in a lot of the images I see from this place and I like that. From looking at the thumbnail, this almost looked like an aerial photo. Nicely done.
