Prairie Buttes Morning

Early morning on the prairie at Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area. I never fail to be amazed at the beauty there is in this area of Nebraska. Most people think the midwest is some place you have to drive through to get to the mountains or the southwest. You just don't see the beauty and variety at 75 mph. on the interstate. I just watched a special called "Great Plains: America’s Lingering Wild." It was put together by Michael Forsberg, who made his mark in photography photographing the great plans, and Nebraska Public Television. If you ever get a chance to watch it, it is well worth while. I have started to get stale and many of my images from here are starting to look the same. I am probably not going to carry my camera with me so much and just hike and document the area to renew my vision and build a catalog of places I want to shoot and at what time of year. I really enjoy sharing the beauty of this area, but I also want to be at least some what original.

A well put together image, Richard. I wonder what this would look like in black and white? Anyway, a well caught, very natural image.

Richard,

I think you've been doing a great job in capturing the beauty and the essence of your "backyard." This is another great example. Great light, and you've got a nice complimentary sky and set of clouds to go with it. The long shadows of the plants work very well too.

The only suggestion I have, or a wish, would be for a little more breathing room at the bottom. Certainly not close to merging with the frame, but a little more room would be great. no biggie.

certainly not stale to me, Richard. I like this as is with just enough opening in clouds to see blue, but I can imagine other times of the day and lighting may work even better. overall composition is excellent.

Richard, revisiting the same place over and over can get stale. I don't know how much time you have, but I'd sure recommend visiting some of the areas of the Sandhills, like Crescent Lake NWR. This strikes me as a classic "Oregon Trail" view with the yucca's in the foreground and the butte in the background. This looks great, with the warm light and the cloudy skies.

This is very nice Richard. I think you have done a wonderful job of showing us this area! Nice light, colors and comp here along with that great sky. I have really enjoyed the images you made and look forward to more. You have made me want to visit this area!

Beautiful light and clouds matched to a real nice scene. I would agree with Lon's comment about the breathing room, but minor nit for me.

Sweet light and beautiful scene Richard. Might be more powerful if the horizon line of best fit wasn't 50/50, but you had to balance that dramatic sky with the interesting FG. Good work!
