First Snow
by Kirk Siegler
I stopped at this location on my way up to Rocky Mountain National Park Area in Colorado. It was a sunny day and the Aspen were at peak color so I snapped a few images and Moved on. That night an early winter storm rolled in and left a light dusting of snow with low lying clouds so I shot back over to the avalanche chute I had shot before and captured this shot as the clouds were clearing. Shot with a Mamiya 645, Portra 160 Neg film.

This is excellent! Great atmosphere with the low hanging and clearing clouds. I really like the composition; great balance between the "avalanche chute" of fall color, the snow dusted pines the fog and even the deep blue sky; all work well together.
The large version works very well, especially in showing off the dusting of snow. This small version, well it's just harder to tell. As a side note, I'm sure you know you can post up to 720px on the long side and 1200 for the larger view. I know some folks have trouble with compression, etc., but these images are so much more enjoyable if we can see them a little bigger. Let us know if you're having trouble posting larger versions.
Thanks for posting!

This is fantastic! Portra did a great job handling the light and you have a wonderfully bright and colorful photo. I just love those clouds. They add so much to the scene.
