Thank you for the help and comments on my last post. Sometimes looking a ta photo for too long and your objectivity becomes clouded ad you need other eyes to see what you can't anymore.
Here is the second photo I made in Yosemite during the autumn trip. I was still in El Capitan meadow wandering around in a daze trying to get into the groove. It takes me a while sometimes to start seeing. You have to almost forget who you are or where you came from and all the baggage that weighs you down from day to day life. You have to let your heart just be free while realizing that it is OK to do so and that your not just being foot-loose and fancy. Once my mind and heart can make that leap from the manufactured reality of Man to the natural reality of the world I become anchored and my sight returns.
This photo here might not be a jaw dropper for most, but to me it embodies almost everything that drives me as a photographer, first and foremost the light. The light on this lodge pole pine was just magical. Coupled with careful placement of my camera such that the additional oak tree branches seemed to emanate from the pine and the surrounding golden autumn color and all set in front of a darker background, just made for a great combination that really got my juices flowing from that point on.
Your thoughts much appreciated.

19 commentsThis is FANTASTIC! What great vision here. I mentioned it earlier, but it continues to amaze me how so many different images and concepts are there is a space that we repeatedly visit.
This is quite powerful and a fantastic capture of the ponderosa. But it's placement and the inclusion of the other elements really takes this to another level. For me, more than the autumn oak leaves, it's the gray branches of the snag behind the big pine that I give kudos for such a great composition. There are few dead snags in the meadow, and I think the snag behind the pine is "Preston's Tree." Of course that's not important, but thought I would mention it.
I love this image.

I really love it - reminds me of Charles Cramer. I agree with you that it is a shot that embodies what a good landscape photo should have. Fantastic color and a very creative composition with amazing light. Congrats.

I also like the center placement and with that, the name you gave it.
