I've always enjoyed the vertical panoramic format and thought these falls would make a nice subject. There was some really interesting light and mist on this day and the sun poked through just long enough to get a couple frames from this iconic waterfall. Let me know what you think of compistion, processing etc. Please check the larger size as well.

The composition and the lean format complement each other well. However, there seems to be a pretty strong yellow color cast. Posting this in the GIF format with it's very limited colors may have something to do with it.

I love the composition. The mist really adds to this picture and the framing is very nice as well. It looks a little HDRish to me...that would be my only nit.

Thank you for the comments. Jack- I don't do any HDR in my photos but the unique lighting of this image does I think give this a 3dish feel and expands the dynamic range in a way that it uses all of range an single shot can manage.

Love the vertical pano, the comp, the overall contrast, light and mood. Striking presentation and a beautiful image for my tastes.

Todd,

Classic take on Yosemite Falls and indeed you caught some beautiful light. The foggy mist up top really goes to show the dynamics of light in Yosemite valley. Foggy/stormy here, a light show there, snowing somewhere else....

I don't see this having an HDR look, but will say that is does have a "look" to it. I would describe it as almost like an illustration - perhaps something you would see as a poster or postcard in a gift shop. Not sure if that really describes this, and it's not a bad thing either. I think you have a unique capture of light for an oft-photographed vantage point. I think well done.

To John's comment about being a gif? Not sure if John will revisit, but fyi.... NPN puts a transparent gif overlay on images uploaded to the server and displayed here in the galleries. What that does is when you right-click and save an image, you're only getting an empty gif file and not the actual image itself. pretty clever. However of course it's only a deterrent and but anyone can still steal any image off any website if they so desire. Anyway, the uploaded image is jpg and not gif is what I wanted to point out.

Thank Lon for the comments and I thats interesting to note about the gifs. I know what you are saying about the look of this image, it originally was not a keeper but something about it made me keep looking at so I thought I would present it here. I think its a great example of how light can shape an image in different ways.

Compositionally, very strong. The light feels a bit unusual, but there are some nice contrasts in this.
