Out of the Shadows

I captured this small, though handsome, buck emerging from the thick brush as he was pursuing a doe. I have photographed this buck previously and posted some of the images. His rack is looking more and more battered. His left brow tine is missing, and his right G3 tine has been broken off. I liked the light on his head as he emerged. Comments and critiques welcome.

I really like this composition and particulary the title, "Out of the Shadows". In looking at this in the thumbnail version on the forum, I didn't know what it was, and the image of the deer emerged, quite literally, from the shadows. It forms from the higher luminance of the mid-tones and highlights starting with that right ear.and then that antler and the other, separating themselves from the similarly shaped tree branches....The deer emerges from his background environment, yet he remains part of it and doesn't clash with and trash it.

Nice one, Jerry. In the larger image, it's pretty plain that his focus is not on you but the doe. Good patience in getting him in the patch of sunlight. Certainly a good habitat shot as well. I certainly can appreciate how difficult it is to get a clean shot of deer when they frequent areas like this.

I agree that the light on the head is beautiful. The steely eyed gaze is great as well. Some very nice warm tones in the background.

I like this one a lot Jerry; it is the lovely lighting that makes this a very eye-catching image. Great work :toast:
