This is a little private lake that i have exclusive access to..a special place i hold dear to my heart. This was taken this morning before work as the fog began to break, revealing the island in the middle of the lake perfectly. So, i found my comp, setup, and got ready for the perfect moment..the only problem, the wind was blowing at 10-15mph and just would not let up. So my question here..does the swaying tree on the left distract or work in this capture? I am very happy with the outcome, as it really relays the mood and feel of the early morning weather this morning, but i would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this one.

Thanks in advance!!

Nice moody image. I like the muted colors in the foreground. Fine composition the tree on the left foreground balances the trees on the right background nicely.

wonderful image, Justin. I like the comp and fog. the tree movement from wind is a little distracting and I would prefer it to be still, but its not really a deal breaker in my view. maybe lighten the foreground just slightly.

Beautifully composed image and wonderful mood! I may be in the minority, but I am really liking the blurred tree top. It throws a wholly different and unexpected look to the scene. It works for me to make this an untraditional image.

Justin,

+1 on Harley's comments. Quiet and moody, yet I think the blurring/blowing of the top of the tree gives us a clue to what the conditions were like and adds another dimension other than site to tell the story.

The little break in the reeds there over near the left rule of thirds position forns a diagonal that points over towards the island in the lftt to right direction. The tall tree on the left kind of acts as a frame on the left, directing the attention towards the right, and yet there is that tuft of leaves at the very top that provides a sense of balance with the larger tree on the island.

The shoreline definitely directs attention from left to right also with the initial diagonal.

But by far the most incredible thing about this image, and what ultimately rivits the mind is the subtle discovery of the repitition of color layers, red to green, in the foreground on the island. Just much more subtle there on that shore.

That is exactly the kind of discovery that makes an image fun to explore and rewarding for the viewer!!!

GREAT job on this !!! :toast: :jump: :wavey:

Wonderfully captured and presented light, and the comp ties it all together.

Your image conveys the atmosphere of this scene immediately to me, Justin. I appreciate the composition based on diverse layers, and the course of the shoreline adds another interest. Your processing is spot on in my opinion.
