Lagniappe

For those of you not from Cajun country, lagniappe means a little something extra that you didn't expect. I started out this morning well before sunrise with a certain image in mind for sunrise. As I was getting closer to my destination the crescent moon was getting closer to Venus and the horizon was getting the first glow of sunrise. I set up the camera and shot a couple of images and then went on to my destination (see the man in nature gallery). I like the way this turned out and I would like to get other opinions. I always appreciate the comments and critiques.

Excellent image, Richard. Great comp here with the moon and Venus to boot. Just love the color gradation in the sky. Love the simplicity of this. I was wondering about the clouds in the LRC and if they were a nit. Decided no, they were an important element in the image in keeping it from being a formula. Hope that is understandable. And if you draw a line from Venus thru the moon, you end up at the clouds. Have no idea if that has any meaning. Just an observation.

Beautiful sky and color gradient with the moon slice and Venus. I am finding the clouds pull me out of the image. My eyes keep drifting their way. Otherwise, quite excellent.

Richard,

Awesome! I love these moments and we of course have a hard time passing them up. I love everything about this from the color gradient (beautiful!) to the semi-narrow format and I even love the presence of the clouds intruding. And just enough land to ground the image.

Beautiful, no complaints what so ever.

I really like the tonal and color gradient in the sky. And, the mood and Venus make great additional elements.

My favorite images are those I never planned or imagined. Careful, they're quite addictive.

Beautiful gradient. I saw this same conjunction the other morning, but I was heading into work and running late because I kept looking up at the sky :). I like the simplicity of the foreground, and of course the conjunction is a big bonus. Also, I like how you captured just a bit of Earth shine in the dark moon.

Perfectly simple and totally meaningful. The moon and Venus are crisp and bright, the gradation of color from sunset to inky blue outer space is glorious, and all the elements are there.
