hi all,

a shot of a lava field was high up on my to-do list for iceland. this one is from a rather spontaneous side-trip to the beautiful berserkjahraun lava field. the sunset was just about to happen - i didn't have too much time to scout for compositions. here's the one i liked best.

you can read more about the image and the story behind the lava field's mysterious name on my blog.

Berserkjahraun lava field, Iceland

Canon 5DMKII, EF 17-40 @ 20mm, GND
ISO 100, f/11, 0.6 seconds
two exposures blended for DR, processed in LR and PS (TKs luminosity masks)

best,
joerg

Wow, Iceland sure is a really cool place for landscape photography, judging by the amount of stunning images coming from that location. A pity it is so cold up there, my system can't handle that. This is an awesome scene Joerg. The comp is well balanced, the detail fantastic and the colors fascinating. Perfectly blended IMO. :toast:

That's just a beautiful dramatic shot Joerg, with great near/far perspective that leads my eye through the image. Reminds me of a Marc Adamus image somewhat. I wish you would have posted a larger version!

This is beautiful Joerg. The overall scene is lovely, but the landmass seems a bit on the bright side considering the darkness of the clouds. Sky color is gorgeous.

Joerg,

Wonderful landscape image. This certainly showcases a rugged, if not beautiful and forbidding landscape. Interesting too that the glorious sky is taking a backseat to the landscape - and that doesn't happen very often. Well done.

This shot is a feast for the eyes. I love the contrast in both color and texture between the foreground and the sky. Your processing is very natural as well. I would love to see this image in print to appreciate all the fine detail going on in the foreground. Though you might have felt rushed when setting up the composition, I find the final product to be very calculated and deliberate.
