"Fall"en Leaves

Found this scene walking a stretch of Merced River I hadn't previously explored. It was raining lightly accentuating the color. Forgive the cheesy title- I'm never good at those

I know this is a bit of cliche image, but it was the first good opportunity I've had to photograph leaves in an eddy. I had a lot of fun and spent a couple hours shooting it. Every image was considerably different as the breeze and current changed the leaf patterns. I don't think I'll ever make a big print of this, but it was fun to work with nonetheless.

C&C welcome

It's a perfect eddy. The surroundings help close in the area of interest, and all are related. I really like it.
Out of curiosity, what was your shutter speed?

This is a really cool shot, and quite different than the "usual" eddy shots. In this case, you have a very large pool of water, and a broad view of the landscape. In most cases, the eddy shots I've seen are much more isolated. The leaves near the edge of the pool are enticing, and I love how there is a varying amount of movement as you work your way from the edge of the pool toward the middle. Very nice work.

Robb, I think you have done a great job with this image. A super whirl, in a nicely composed setting. Also nice colors.

Robb,

Excellent! Great find! Totally agree with Ben's comments; what a great combination of the autumn landscape with a wonderful eddy and pool of swirling leaves.

This sure looks like that area just upstream from Pahono Bridge, but yet I don't recall a big boulder in the river between there and Valley View. No matter, it's a terrific find and great capture and crafting of this image. Well done.

Nice catch of the whirlpool and the curve of the bank echoes it nicely.

Michael- it was a 30 second exposure.
Lon- you're pretty sharp. It's a couple hundred yards west of Valley view.
On a side note, I returned the following day to check it out again, but nearly all of the foreground leaves were gone and there weren't any floating in the eddy. Nature is everlasting and ephemeral.

Rob, wonderful autumn scene. The shutter speed is perfect. The swirling leaves are amazingly thick! The white balance looks just slightly warm for my taste, but overall I like what you have done.
