Canon Rebel xTi, 100-400 lens, polarizer.

Last winter I found these beautiful backlit Japanese maples at a local nursery and thought it looked like a painterly Christmas card.

The mid photo leaves and stems are really very nice. The OOF bottom is OK, being somewhat neutral; but I believe I would crop most of the blur at the top, as it is quite distracting. The complementing background and back lighting are a wonderful part of this image.

I agree with Phil's observation, but just want to emphasize that the dynamic range from the backlighting in the center leaves are very spectacular!!

Wow, what vivid colors and shapes in this image, Kathy! Japanese Maple trees are one of my favorities. Love how your backlighting highlights the beautiful leaves. Wish the OOF areas on top and bottom weren't quite so intrusive though. The top could be cropped down but the bottom, unfortunately, cuts off the one main leaf in a distracting way. Without that problem, this would be a spectacular image!

I really like the comp here. I don't mind the OOF leaves in fact I think they give a different perspective to what would might otherwise just another picture of maple leaves. Great overall color, very nice.

On option to the top crop may be to decrease the distracting brightness of the top oof area (although I may favor the crop). The backlit maples against the green are nice

This is bewitching and beautiful. I just wish that the tip of the main leaf was not obscured. I don't think cropping is the answer.

I agree with Carolyn...the blur cutting off the main leaf is the main distraction. Otherwise, this would really be a killer image! :wavey:

This is beautiful Kathy ..love the red against the green, and would like to observe that the top third is off ..
