This kind of picture sure is not everyones taste....but I do love this kind of images. I found this foggy monotone forest scene alluring.
Taken a little bit below Belchenfluh in switzerland.

Bill, This is pretty cool, i think the blue/brown works well together. Looking at the larger version really helps!

Bill, this is delightful. the colour combination works great, and the trunk textures and misty far trees are very effective.
Love it!

This is nice image. I like the browns and blues but it is the way you captured the levels of depth that make it most interesting. Good Job.

Very compelling Bill. The dominant tree on the left that is ever so slightly leaning to the right is what really catches my eye, along with the three-dimensionality of the layers created by the fog. I might have cropped out the two dark trees on the right...they are a bit distracting. Beautiful work. :toast:

Love the light and conditions - fog and some soft light is the perfect combo for forest scenes.
The trees as such are not exactly my cup of tea. I like them to be ancient looking creatures - like the Redwoods or a Lord of the Rings type of forest...
Nevertheless, the composition works very well, the many layers of trees fading into the distance is a cool effect.

This is my taste!
I like: Trees composition, background fog color
Dislike: the partially naked thin tree on the right

Like the composition. Not so keen on the blue mist.

I like this a bunch Bill. Beautiful blue cast and the peeling bark on the right is a wonderful element.

Cool and very ghostly. It's fascinating to me because it takes what would be a busy scene with all the trunks and branches and turns it minimalist with the repeated shapes fading into the fog. I like it a lot.

The thumbnail sure presents a different look to the actual image we see when opening the post up and viewing the larger version. Excellent & amazing capture here, Bill.

Bill, This is really nice! I have very similar scenes right here but have never captured it with a mood this nice. I really enjoy this image. I like it as it is here but also like a crop eliminating the the barkless pine on the right. Coming in past that tree making the space the same as it is between the tree and frame on the left looked very nice..at least to me. Wonderful image as is with a fantastic mood!

Bill,

I'm a little unsure about some of this. I love the mood and the misty background and I see great potential in this forest. I'm with others about cropping this to exclude the tree with the stripped bark; somehow that guy just doesn't seem to belong.

And no one has really mentioned this so maybe it's just me, but I thinkt he color/saturation is a bit strong - especially for the mood that was captured. Speaking of which, did a quick conversion and I think this would look fantastic with the crop and converted to b&w.

In this color version though, the brigh spots up top, a very cyan leaning color and dare I say, has an Orton technique look to it in the brighter and bg areas.

Clearly an image where it appeals to some in this form, but not so to others. Just not seeing the color version here. But, that's just 1 opinion.

Lon , you're right about the orton. I usually don't use orton in my processing but here I thought it supports the kind of dreamy look I was at....I reduced the effect to about15% and only in the blues. About the color......I also was first not so sure about the saturation in the blues so I reduced it a little bit. But for me was the blue/red-brown contrast important and that was i was going after. But when you mentioned this would also be a good black & white I totally agree with you. I was so focused on my idea that I didn't think of blck & white. I would give the black & white a try.
This forest really has a lot of potential and i have some winter scenes shot there about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate.

A very surreal image, Bill. The layered trees and bight background create an illusion of a soft filter. Love the atmosphere here. :toast:
