Whew, this image has been a bear to process. This is my 6th attempt in hopes of getting it right. I would appreciate any comments and critiques on what it might need (besides a trash can!) to complete the processing.

Large version available.

D2x w/ 70-300 @ 80mm
1.5 sec @ f/11 - MLU and remote release
100 ISO
Don't remember about filters
Tripod
Capture One 6, CS4

Any thoughts, critiques, and comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Very impressive.
I like: Concept, B&W,
I would only process the contrast of the reflection in the water. I would recommend Nik's Silver Efex Pro2.

Opening the large view really makes a world of difference, excellent detail and reflections, I like what you have done here, and I find it very appealing, definitely not a candidate for the trash can. Beautifully seen and presented Bill.

Fantastic tonality you've pulled out in your post processing.

This is a powerful image Bill. It shows strength of the life force in the tree and roots and also the delicacy of the smaller bushes.
I like the way you have presented it.

Don't trash it. This is incredibly powerful in b&w. My only suggestion would be to lighten the water just a wee bit. I love the range of textures and shapes. Excellent composition

This has a very old school look and feel to it. Great detail.

Another intimate with rich silver tones and blacks, Bill. Fine use of the light and shadows as well. Very well done.

I like it! I do think that lightening the reflection and add more contrast to it could help it, as it currently seems to give too much dark, empty space to the photo.

Bill,

All I can say about this being a bear to process... is that it's the results that matter and no matter what processing you went through, it sure doesn't look like you processed it - if that makes sense. Said another way, this looks great! Excellent range of tone and contrast. So much contained within the frame here, from the rocks and plants, to the tree, roots and reflection. It all just fits together seamlessly in an excellent image. No nits or suggestions here.

Looks like one that could have been tough to wrestle into place, Bill. But the finished product made the cut very impressively. I cannot get into the B&W characteristics as I do not have any knowledge in that arena, just like what I see......

Wow, I like this very much, Bill! The highlight for me is how your B+W treatment has brought out those gnarly roots beautifully. Very nice work!
