Rick I like the capture of the sunlight on the wall and thru the arch. It seems to me that most of the interest is in the right side of the image. If it were mine I would think about cropping from the left but then I don't know what your intent was. Just a suggestion. Chet

The sandstone of the southwest is irresistible in reflected light. You have a wonderful subject here, but I feel like you have too many competing elements. Though the opening of the arch is strong, it is competing with the dark area on the left side, and the bright area near the right edge. I feel like the composition could use some a bit more direction to help emphasize a certain aspect of the subject. Also, this is very difficult light to shoot in. Between the bright highlights in the background, and the deep shade in the foreground, your red channel is clipping in the highlights, which draws a lot of attention to it.
There are many subjects that are inspiring to view, but very difficult to photograph -- and I think this might be one of those scenes.

Rick,
I think you did quite well actually with the composition considering all the elements. Also, the handling of the light and range is done rather well too - considering that I expect the dynamic range was pretty wide. Hard to say since I wasn't there, but I'm wishing for just a bit more to be included towards the upper right. The little corner of sky is a "tweener" - meaning, just at the point where I either want to see more sky, or none. But as presented and including the bit of sky through the arch, I think works well considering the potential options you had in your vantage point.
To me, it seems a little soft in the LL, although I think compression is taking it's toll as well. I like Chet's thinking as well. Maybe a crop from the left to bring more emphasis to the shapes, light and color of the right half.
